From the first week in Germany, up until this week, the kids have asked me when I can come to their school. After procrastinating as long as I could I gave in. I had a free hour in my school first and second hour, and his teacher also wanted me to come. The night before Uli and I figured out what I was going to do, and then I was off to 3rd or 4th grade (I can't remember...). As crazy as it was to be constantaly swarmed by Max's class, it was still fun, and now it's out of the way!
After going into the school, taking off our shoes, and going into the classroom I got a reminder of the chaos of 3rd grade. I found it very amusing that the boys were all shouting, tossing a ball in the classroom, and climing desks and on the other side of the room were the girls sitting in their desk's, respectfully talking to eachother. After the teacher came in all the boys sprinted to their desks, as if nothing was happening.
After doing a very basic, "my name is, I'm 16 years old" introduction in English, I switched to German so the kids could really understand me. I talked a little about who I am, where i come from, and why I chose Germany. Then I went over a few funny differences, and answered some questions. After the boring talking part was over it was time for a game. We seperated into teams, and it was quiz time about America. I had some basic questions, about anything America, and suprisingly the kids knew quite a bit. For the prize for everyone doing so well we had some good old American chocolate chip cookies, and then I introduced them to a typical lunch in America. Something that almost everyone is discusted with is that we dare to put peanut butter and jelly together in a sandwich. After the initial "ewww"s, some of the boys manned up, and decided to try it. After finding it wasn't too bad, almost every kid decided to try it out, with mixed reviews.
All in all, it was a fun little thing to let Max show his American off, and a unique way to share some American culture. Man, I'm starting to talk like I'm an exchange student or something. Also, I know I haven't been all that punctual with posting on the blog, but that is about to change. Weekends are unpredictable, and I don't always have time to post, so I'm doing something new. I will now be posting REGUARLY on Wendsdays. Happy Thanksgiving, and Happy Nikolas! (Nikolas is big in Germany.)
