This past week at school we had something called "Schule als Staadt". This is translated to "school as a state." From Monday until Thursday our school was simulating a state. We had a flag, a parliment, a border, and royalty. Everyone had a job, and everyone got paid. Our state was named Hermanien.
For the week, I was a representative of America in the parliement. Truthfully I'm an exchange student and we get special treatment, so I didn't have to do much. My assignment was that I had to do a 5 minute speech on thrusday about the government of the US. I didn't have to sit in the parliment meetings or work 4 hours, just simply had to have my speech ready. For most of the day I hung out with firends and ate in stores. Stores would be ran by students, and that would be their job. There were tons of differnt types of stores. Here is a list. There were smooties, waffles, bakers, crafts, crapes, ice cream, sandwich, movie theaters, and really anything that you can think of. For government we had a King, a Queen, a prince, a princess, and a parliement. To enforce rules we had a police, and a border control. Border control made sure you were in the school for 6 hours a day.
I got paid 40 HK everyday to write my speech, and practice it. Really I only worked one day, but got paid everyday =D. On Thursday I was kind of prepared for my speech, by the way it was in German! Sadly on Thursday the parliment was overthrown by the citizens, so I therefore had no one to give my speech to. Bummer. I was very happy that I didn't have to do the speech. It's super embarssing knowing that you most likely sound like a fool who can't speak a language in front of 75 people of so. Overall it was cool, but also extremly funny to me that we didn't have to learn anything for an entire 4 days. I then had Friday school, but all we did was talk about Schule als Staadt.
Starting the 13th, I have break for the next two weeks. This is our Fall break! Thanks so much. I'll soon have a new post up. From the 17th until the 25th I will be in the Netherlands. I'm going over there to visit a family who was my neibhor for 3 years in the US. Thanks so much! Tchüss!
