So, yes, I know that i didn't update my blog last week, but it's ok. I was at the beggening of having a pretty bad cold, and writing on a blog was not the first thing on my mind. All of my exchange student friends from my 3 week class are all away. The two friends I grew the closest to are now halfway across the country.. way down in Bayarn.
This last week I started school, so by this time I already have a week under my belt! Now that I'm not as busy as before, I am going to go with a slightly different setup on my blog posts. Instead of going day by day, but I'll just sum up my week, point out some funny things, etc.
I'll start off this post my justtalking about school. School here, overall, is super classy compared to Hamilton (Sorry 'Murica, Deutschland wins witht this one!). In the US Hamilton really looks like a jail, except for it doesnt have any metal bars, or at least that I've seen... =O. The school lunches at Hamilton taste like I imagine jail lunches to taste like. On the Contrary, school here is modern looking and colorful. The cafeteria has all red, blue,, and yellow chairs, in certain parts of the school there are some pretty cool, colorful, and soft seats, and overall the school just looks nice. The food for lunches tastes good, and also looks good! They sell bread and drinks during every break, and it's not 5 dollars for a pile of musch.
One thing that was very strange for me was the different clothing. It's not really much different, but it's enough to throw you off a little. The teachers here are dressed very relaxed, and have little for a dress code, if any. Teachers will often come into school in jeans and a non-collar shirt. I haven't seen a single teacher in dress pants and a collar shirt. Student's dress mostly the same, but they have slight differences. Some sweatshirts have a turtle neck type thing on it, and hoods are sometimes shaped really different in the front, but it's just a European thing. One stereotype that is really not true is that people say they all wear converse in Europe. Only about 30 to 40 percent of people wear converse, Nike sneakers are very common. Not too many guys wear converse. Yes they wear more converse than us, and less tenis shoes, but instead they wear like skater like shoes and soccer flats. The funniest thing about clothing here is how much American Flag stuff there is. I've seen more. I can't go a day without seeing at least 3 shirts with an American flag, and I'm not looking hard. They have everything from shirts with flags on it, to scarfs, socks, and hats. The final thing about fasion is that in Highschool here, about 60 to 80 percent of people style their hair. In the US this number is high, but not nearly this high.
Another thing that is much different is the overall rules of the school. Here it is much like a college university, in which you have so much freedom as a student. If you have break, you are free to leave and go to town, or walk around outside. One thing that really cool to me is that people go outside, play soccer, walk on the track, or just talk during break. At hamilton during lunch all we do is sit inside and eat, and maybe 10 or so people go out and play hackeysack. I'm going to do a complete different post for explaining my scheduele to y'all.
